FOLEY – Foley’s popular train rides have  been canceled Tuesday, June 27, due to expected excessive heat.

The rides aboard the Charles Ebert Jr. Express take place each Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday at the Foley Depot Museum from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. On Tuesday, June 27, heat index values were predicted to be 106 degrees, according to U.S. Weather Service reports.

The Charles Ebert Jr. Express is driven by a dedicated group of volunteers who make the popular ride possible. City staff members also assist in loading the cars.The rides require drivers and staff members to work several hours each day when the event takes place.

In the interest of the safety of all those operating the train, city officials decided that the rides would not take place Tuesday. Officials will monitor weather predictions for later in the week before deciding if the rides will resume Thursday or Saturday.

Since June 1, 1,877 children and adults have ridden the train. The train travels a route around Heritage Park and along the Perry Wilbourne Rose Trail. The route takes about 12 minutes to complete.

Rides are free for children and adults, but donations are accepted.
