Five-star receiver heading to other side of Iron Bowl rivalry after previously committing to Crimson Tide

Foley senior Perry Thompson is heading to the other side of the Iron Bowl rivalry after he announced he flipped his commitment from Alabama to Auburn on Saturday, July 29, at Big Cat Weekend on The Plains.

The five-star receiver might have hinted at his decision at Gulf Coast Media Day a few days prior when he said he hoped for a tie in this year’s version of the in-state rivalry.

At the Tigers’ summer recruiting event, Thompson officially announced he was flipping on Instagram Live where he was immediately mobbed by fellow Auburn pledges and Tiger head coach Hugh Freeze.

Thompson is the second five-star recruit to flip their commitments to the Auburn Tigers in a matter of four days. Chilton County’s Demarcus Riddick, a 6-foot-2, 220-pounder listed by many recruiting services as a top-three linebacker in the nation, revealed he flipped his commitment from Georgia to Auburn on Wednesday, July 26.

Thompson broke the Lions’ single-season record for receptions previously held by Julio Jones as a junior where he was named to the Alabama Sports Writers Association’s first-team all-state.

After he shined at the Nick Saban prospect camp in the summer leading into that junior season, Thompson received an offer from Alabama and committed to the Crimson Tide a week later.
