George "Barry" Barringer McKee Jr.

George Barringer McKee, Jr. (Barry), age 82, a native of Bayou La Batre, Alabama, died at his Fairhope, Alabama, home on Tuesday, November 17, 2020. Mr. McKee was preceded in death by his parents, George Barringer and Aline Wintzell McKee, Sr., and his beloved uncle, Francis Marion Wintzell (Jack).

Mr. McKee is survived by his wife, Christine Urbanek McKee (Chris) and their three children. A son, George Barringer McKee, III (Barry), and his wife, Elizabeth Sherrer McKee live in Garner, North Carolina, and have two children, Margaret Estelle McKee and Benjamin Sherrer McKee. A daughter, Marilyn McKee Walker (Lynne), lives in Spanish Fort, Alabama, and has three children: Sarah Jane Walker, Thomas Jack Walker and Catherine Elizabeth Walker (Ellie). Stephanie McKee Richardson (Robin) and her husband, Chad Michael Richardson, also live in Spanish Fort with their three children: Daniel Bryant Richardson, Gemma Paige Richardson and Georgia Kate Richardson. Other survivors include his sister, Frances McKee Tillman (Stellie), a sister-in-law, Vonne Urbanek Bethea, and brothers-in-law, Steven John Urbanek, Michael Alexander Urbanek, James David Urbanek, and Paul Anthony Urbanek. He is also survived by his, godmother, Kathleen Bosarge Zirlott, and many special cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Mr. McKee is a 1956 graduate of St. Margaret’s Catholic High School in Bayou La Batre, Alabama and a 1960 graduate of Spring Hill College in Mobile. He retired from the Social Security Administration after 39 years of faithful and dedicated service. Mr. McKee was a devout Catholic and active member of St. Margaret’s Parish in Bayou La Batre, Alabama, for most of his life. He loved cooking and found his greatest joy in family gatherings. Visitation will be held Saturday, November 21, 2020, from 9:00-10:00 am at Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home, Fairhope, followed by a graveside service at 10:30am at Memory Gardens of Fairhope. A very special thank you to the nurses, staff and aides at Covenant Hospice, Daphne, Alabama.
