Ida Blackmon Callaway, age 106, a native of Bay Minette and a longtime resident of Bon Secour and Gulf Shores, Alabama, passed away on Monday, May 29, 2017.

Mrs. Callaway taught 50 years in the Baldwin County School System and another 25 years as a substitute teacher. Through her sweet spirit, she opened the door to the joy of learning for generations of students.

Additionally, as an Ambassador of Christ, she faithfully served with all aspects of ministry at Oyster Bay Baptist.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Houston Callaway.

Survivors include sons, James (Shirley) Callaway of Cantonment, Florida and Warren (Sandy) Callaway of Largo, Florida; grandchildren, Katrina, Leah (Jeff), Brian and Pamela (Andrew); great-grandchildren, Jenna, Grant and Bradley.

A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, June 1, 2017 at noon at Oyster Bay Baptist Church.

The family will receive friends on Thursday from 10 a.m. until time of the service.

Interment will follow at Oyster Bay Baptist Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials to Oyster Bay Baptist Church Building Fund.
