Jefcoat named head wrestling coach at Daphne High School

DAPHNE, Ala. - Daphne High has welcomed Greg Jefcoat, the new Daphne High School Head Wrestling coach, to the Daphne Family. Coach Jefcoat is a former state champion wrestler from Pinson Valley high school. He receivied a wrestling scholarship from Carson Newman College where he wrestled for five years.

This year, Coach Jefcoat will begin his 23rd year as a teacher and wrestling coach. Over the course of his career, He has amassed over 500 wins, a state championship in 2019, a state runner-up in 2008, and nine top ten finishes.

In 2019, Coach Jefcoat was selected as the NFHS Alabama Coach of the Year for the sport of wrestling. He has coached a two-time national champion, a national runner-up, three All-Americans, 13 state champions, 18 state finalist and over 60 state place finishers in his tenure as a Wrestling coach. He has also been a varsity assistant football coach for 18 years.

Greg and his wife Jennifer have seven wonderful children, and they are ecstatic to become part of the Daphne community. Coach Jefcoat wanted the community to know:

“I look forward to help grow the Daphne wrestling program into a South power through the development of men and women with the upmost character. Coach Kenny King has also extended an opportunity for me to assist with the football program. I am humbled to work for Coach King and help this program in any way I can. This is truly a special day for the Jefcoat family.”
