The Marjorie Younce Snook Public Library in Summerdale recently updated and added to its adult computer lab thanks to a grant received from the Snook Family Foundation and a LSTA grant received from the Alabama Public Library Service. The Snook Family Foundation grant allowed the library to purchase five new Levona all-in-one computers equipped with Windows 10 operating systems and Microsoft Office Professional 2013 with Outlook, Publisher, Access, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote and more; one Dell computer for hosting the library’s e-catalog program and one iMac with Facetime capabilities, Pages, Numbers, Keynote, Garage Band and more. The library also purchased new computer desks and chairs with the Snook Family Foundation grant.
The LSTA grant allowed the library to replace the four computers purchased when the library opened in 2007 with four new Levona all-in-one computers also equipped with Window 10 and Microsoft Professional Suite software. Summerdale patrons can now download, upload, search and print quickly and easily. The computer lab provides the Summerdale adult community and surrounding areas with access to the internet and essential technology services that are needed for job searches and sending applications online in a timely manner. The computer lab is also used for distance learning and educational, recreational and personal needs. The new computers help eliminate slow computer response and long waiting periods for patrons.
