On Friday, Jan. 12, the South Baldwin Literacy Council (SBLC) revealed that Mitchell Lee, the Executive Director, is embarking on a new chapter in his professional journey according to an announcement made by the organization on social media.

Lee has taken on the role of Vice President at Lee Charities, where he contributes leadership, insights, and funding to a range of non-profit organizations in Baldwin County. At Lee Charities, Lee will engage in collaborative efforts with multiple organizations, working towards enhancing outcomes and elevating the quality of life for underserved communities.

In addition to his responsibilities at Lee Charities, Lee is actively involved as the Board President of SeaGlass Initiative. This initiative represents a collective endeavor involving various non-profits with a shared focus on addressing service gaps in the community. SeaGlass is dedicated to establishing and overseeing a comprehensive care center, designed to serve as a one-stop-shop for social services. The overarching goal of the initiative is to combat housing insecurity and offer support to unsheltered residents in Baldwin County.

Despite stepping down as Executive Director which Lee has served as for the past five years, Lee will continue to play a vital role as a member of the SBLC Board.

The SBLC Facebook post also introduced Taylor Johns as the new Executive Director, marking a fresh chapter in the organization's leadership.

A Baldwin County native and Troy University graduate, Johns brings a wealth of experience, having been involved with the SBLC since 2020 in various capacities, including roles as a Youth Tutor and Adult Services Supervisor.

Johns resides in Foley with her dog Cooper and cat Stella, and she is not only passionate about education but also committed to advancing the SBLC's mission. Her dedication to improving lives through literacy aligns seamlessly with the council's objectives.

The SBLC looks forward to Johns' leadership as they navigate the next phase of their mission, ensuring literacy remains a cornerstone in their community initiatives.
