MOBILE — Trailing 21-14 with two seconds left in regulation, Foley’s Tyron Cosby scored his second touchdown of the game to bring the margin to 21-20 with 0:00 on the clock at Ladd-Peebles. The Lions went for two and the win, but Murphy defensive lineman Neil Farrell shot through to sack Foley quarterback Chris Armstrong for a dramatic Panthers win.

The Class 7A, Region 1 victory improved Murphy to 2-3 in region play and 3-3 overall to pull even with Foley also at 2-3, 3-3.

Armstrong scored the first points of the game late in the first quarter on a 6-yard run and then tossed a 2-point conversion pass to Cosby for an 8-0 Lions lead.

But the Panthers struck twice in the second period to lead 14-0 at the half. On Murphy’s next possession Nicholas Sims sprung for a 45-yard touchdown run and Panthers’ quarterback Maurice Robinson capped a subsequent Murphy drive with a 5-yard touchdown run before the half.

Neither team posted a score in the third, but Cosby found the end zone for his first score of the quarter on a 1-yard plunge with 7:55 left in the fourth period. Foley went for two points but Farrell came through for the Panthers defensive stop to leave the score 14-14.

With 5:45 left, Robinson tossed a 29-yard touchdown to Murphy receiver Michael Jefferson to retake the lead 20-14. Panthers kicker Adam Thomas then made it 21-14 with his third point-after kick of the night.

Farrell, an LSU commit finished with three sacks and four tackles (three for loss).

Foley takes a break from region play and travels to Spanish Fort to take on the Class 6A Toros Friday. Murphy will host Theodore in a Class 7A, Region 1 game.
