The Daphne restaurant in whose parking lot a manager was found shot to death this week after what police say was a grievance from the suspect’s wife will re-open Saturday.

Jason Mallette, a 38-year-old Daphne resident, died in front of Taziki’s Mediterranean Grill after police and EMS attempted life-saving efforts around 5:30 a.m. June 29.

According to a public relations firm on behalf of the eatery, the establishment will re-open for regular business hours tomorrow, Saturday, July 1. Franchise partners Debbie Curtis and Bobby Touchton released a statement to inform the community how they can support Mallette’s family:

“Our hearts are broken with the loss of Jason Mallette. He was a joyous member of the Taziki’s family and will be in our hearts and minds as we move forward with opening our restaurant tomorrow. Losing him is hard and, while everyone grieves differently, our team has expressed that they are ready to return to work and serve our loyal Taziki’s guests. We will continue to pray for his family as we lean into our faith,” the Daphne restaurant owners said.

They promoted a GoFundMe that has been created for the Mallette family:

According to the GoFundMe, which appears to be created by the mother of his oldest child, Mallette leaves behind two boys aged 11 and 6 and loved “hunting, fishing, Auburn football and making the people around him laugh.”

Daphne Police Chief Brian Gulsby said earlier Friday they believe the motive was a targeted attack by the suspect, who has been identified as Travis Lofton, 41 of Mobile.

“Lofton’s wife is a Taziki’s employee, and there was an apparent grievance with the victim,” Gulsby said. “Whether that was actual or perceived remains under investigation.”

The suspect was located around 9 p.m. Thursday and arrested by the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office. He is being held without bond at the Baldwin County Jail.
