Though regular-season football only recently started, many Baldwin County teams are preparing for region games in Week 2 that will determine playoff positioning.

Six of the 10 games on the local docket will serve as the teams' region-opening contest. The Robertsdale Golden Bears' matchup with Theodore will also serve as their season opener.

Chickasaw Chieftains at St. Michael Cardinals: Thursday, Aug. 31, 7 p.m.

Another St. Michael win after last year's 36-0 victory would even the series at 2-2 all-time. Chickasaw won back-to-back in 2018 and 2019 before current Cardinal head coach Philip Rivers took over in 2021.

In last week's season-opening loss to Gulf Shores, St. Michael rattled off 20 second-half points. The Chieftains fell to LeFlore 33-6 last week to start their season.

Baldwin County Tigers at No. 10 Foley Lions: Friday, Sept. 1, 7 p.m.

Foley owns a 51-39-3 lead in the all-time series, but the teams are even in their last two games after the Lions prevailed 14-0 through the mud. In 47 home games against Baldwin County, Foley holds a 23-21-3 record against the Tigers.

The Lions kicked off their 100th season with 45 points in their win over Prattville to improve their record to 40-3 when scoring at least 40 points since 2000. It also served as the highest point total since a 55-32 win over Alma-Bryant on Oct. 6, 2022.

In the Alabama Sports Writers Association’s (ASWA) state poll following Week 1, Foley debuted as Class 7A’s No. 10 team. It marked the Lions’ first time in the ASWA rankings since the Week 10 poll from Oct. 27, 2015.

Carver Montgomery Wolverines at Daphne Trojans: Friday, Sept. 1, 7 p.m.

Although the Trojans fell in a 27-14 battle last year, the all-time series between the teams is even thanks to Daphne's 14-12 win in the second round of the 2005 playoffs.

This season, the Trojans got out of the gates hot with a 19-0 win over Murphy that registered the program's 47th shutout of all time and the first since Sept. 2, 2022, against Alma-Bryant (25-0). Carver Montgomery fell to Gadsden City 37-20 on the road in Week 1.

No. 4 Faith Academy Rams at Elberta Warriors: Friday, Sept. 1, 7 p.m.

Elberta will look to flip the script on the ledger that reads 3-0 in favor of Faith Academy. The Warriors opened with a 33-7 loss to Bayside Academy in Week 1 and the Rams took down the JAG Jaguars 43-24. Faith Academy went to the state semifinals last season for the first time since 2020.

Fairhope Pirates at Choctawhatchee Indians: Friday, Sept. 1, 7 p.m.

After a thrilling rivalry win to open the season, Fairhope moves onto a rematch of its highest-scoring shootout from last year. The Pirates will enter 14-12 all-time against Floridian opponents.

Just like last week, Fairhope secured last year's close victory with a fourth-down stop to earn a turnover on downs in the final minutes of regulation.

No. 8 Theodore Bobcats at Robertsdale Golden Bears: Friday, Sept. 1, 7 p.m.

Last year's meeting served as the first game between the Bobcats and Golden Bears on the gridiron where Theodore emerged victorious by a 34-0 score.

After wrapping up a different approach to fall camp with a preseason jamboree against Elberta two weeks ago, Robertsdale is set to kick off for the first time in the regular season this weekend.

Blount Leopards at Spanish Fort Toros: Friday, Sept. 1, 7 p.m.

Spanish Fort will enter this year's matchup with an 8-2 overall lead in the series which features a current 4-game win streak that includes a third-round playoff win in 2020. The Toros have outscored the Leopards 75-56 in that stretch and recorded an average margin of victory at eight points.

Blount fell in the Battle of Prichard to open the season last week with a 26-6 loss to Vigor.

Citronelle Wildcats at No. 8 Gulf Shores Dolphins: Friday, Sept. 1, 7 p.m.

With a 9-4 lead in the all-time series, Gulf Shores will look for its third straight win over Citronelle. The Dolphins eclipsed 40 points in each of the last two wins to outscore the Wildcats 89-33.

Gulf Shores ran to a 40-21 win over St. Michael to open the season and Citronelle edged Millry 27-26 to open the regular season. The teams had played every year from 2006-15 then resumed annual meetings in 2020.

The Dolphins climbed one spot in the ASWA’s poll following Week 1 and checked in at No. 8 in Class 5A. Since the program’s first appearance in the state rankings at No. 8 in the 2022 preseason poll, the Dolphins have yet to fall out of the rankings and have been ranked in 14 consecutive polls.

Pike Liberal Arts Patriots at Bayside Academy Admirals: Friday, Sept. 1, 7 p.m.

With Bayside Academy's 33-7 win over Elberta to open the regular season, the Admirals not only improved to 95-6 overall when scoring at least 30 points but they also improved to 48-1 when allowing 10 or fewer points.

Week 2 will be a rematch of last year's 33-15 win in Bayside Academy's first meeting with Pike Lib. The Patriots forfeited their 16-14, season-opening win over Zion Chapel and will enter with an 0-1 record on the season.

Snook Christian Eagles at South Choctaw Rebels: Friday, Sept. 1, 7 p.m.

Snook Christian Academy trails 0-3 in the all-time series and hits the road for its second of three straight away games to get underway. The Eagles enter 0-2 on the season with losses to Cornerstone Christian and Rocky Bayou.

South Choctaw was off last week after the Rebels dropped their season-opening game to Wayne Academy from Mississippi by a 32-8 score. The contest will open play in the Alabama Independent School Association's Class A Region 2.
