ROBERTSDALE, Alabama — The City of Robertsdale will once again provide free summer camps beginning in June. Because of a potential conflict, all of the city’s sports camps will be held on municipal facilities, not at high school facilities, with one exception.

“We were able to move all of the camps to city facilities, but the city does not have a gym facility,” said Mayor Charles Murphy at the council’s regular meeting on May 1.

At the meeting, the council voted to authorize Mayor Pro-tem Joe Kitchens to approach the First Baptist Church about using its gym facility for the summer basketball camp, which will be open to boys and girls June 5-7 from 9 a.m. to noon.

The alternative would be to hold the camp at Central Christian School, Murphy said.

Baseball and softball camps will be held at the city’s sports complex at Garrett Park, a baseball camp with Coach Peter Bezeredi June 6-8 at the city’s baseball complex and a softball camp with Coach Barry Roberts June 13-15 city’s softball complex. Both camps will run from 9 a.m. to noon.

A boys and girls soccer camp will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. daily June 12-14 at the city’s soccer facility located behind the fire station.

A pair of football camps with city league coaches and players will be held in July on the practice field in front of the Robertsdale Police Station on U.S. 90, a defensive skills camp July 10-12 and an offensive skills camp July 24-26. Both camps will run from 5:30 to 8 p.m. daily.

Summer dance camps will be held June 12-15 at Driven Dance Company in the Cash Savers Shopping Center. A camp for ages 4 to 7 year olds is scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon daily while a camp for ages 8 to 11 will be held from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m.

The summer cheerleading camp has been moved to the PZK Hall on Alabama 104 and will be held July 11-13 from 9 a.m. to noon daily. One camp that has not changed venue is the annual boys and girls tennis camp which will be held again this year from 4 to 7 p.m. daily June 19-21 at the Robertsdale Tennis Complex on Silverhill Avenue.

Three summer camps will be hosted again this year in the library at Robertsdale Elementary School. All three camps will be limited to 50 per camp and will be open from 6 to 9 year olds from 9 a.m. to noon and for ages 10 to 12 from 1 to 4 p.m., including:

• Summer Science Camp: June 12-16.

• Camp Read-A-Lot: June 19-23.

• Do-It-Yourself Crafts: June 29-30.

The summer art camp has yet to be scheduled, Murphy said, and would be announced at a later date.

In other business May 1 the council:
