Rufus E. Chavers, a retired master sergeant from the United States Air Force, which he served 31 years, passed away at a local hospital unexpectedly.
Rufus was retired and enjoyed the nature of being outside. He loved to spend time with his family and all his grandchildren.
Rufus was a 1954 graduate of Foley High School, and from there he entered the military. While in high school, Rufus was known as an outstanding athlete. One he entered the military, he served in the Korean and Vietnam wars and received multiple honors, including the Bronze Star.
Rufus is survived by his son, Rufus E. Chavers II; daughter, Dottie Marie Vince; 12 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren that all loved him dearly.
Rufus will be missed by multiple people, especially his family.
Funeral services will be held from the chapel of Pine Rest Funeral Home, Foley, Alabama, on Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2017 at 10 a.m., with interment immediately following in Pine Rest Memorial Park with full military honors.
The family will be accepting friends at the funeral home on Monday evening, Dec. 4, 2017, from 6 until 8 p.m.
