Looking to step back in time, where comedy blends with the classic tale of King Arthur's quest to find the Holy Grail?
South Baldwin Community Theatre will be holding auditions for Monty Python's "Spamalot" on Oct. 28 and 29, which will premiere in January kicking off the 2024 season.
Spamalot is a stage musical that offers a parody of the classic story and is based on the 1975 film "Monty Python and the Holy Grail." According to a release from the theater, the original 2005 Broadway production received 14 Tony nominations and won in three categories, including Best Musical.
Some may remember in the theater's original season lineup that "The Fantasticks" was slated to open the upcoming season, but it has now been replaced with "Spamalot."
"'Spamalot' replaces 'The Fantasticks' following the death of lyricist Tom Jones in August when the decision was made to pull back licenses across the country, which had already been granted," the release read. " Following an initial announcement on social media, the all volunteer theater has had a strong immediate response with both Python fans and musical theater buffs."
The show will be directed by Marsha Guyer, who previously starred in "The Guys" in September. According to Guyer, auditionees are asked to come to auditions prepared for a cold read from the script and a sample solo of a song not included in the show. According to the release, the theater will have a Bluetooth speaker available for those who may need it.
Auditions will be held on Oct. 28 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Oct. 29 from 2 to 4 p.m., and the show will run from Jan. 11-21, 2024.
