BAY MINETTE, Alabama — An 11-month-old male infant has died as a result of injuries received from a single-vehicle crash in Bay Minette Monday evening, Sept. 3, according to a release issued Thursday by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.

The infant, who was improperly restrained, according to the release, was transported via ambulance to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola, where he succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday.

According to the release, the crash occurred around 6 p.m. Monday on Old Brady Road near Bee Gum Road.

No injuries were reported for the driver of the vehicle, identified as a 34-year-old man from Bay Minette. A passenger in the vehicle, identified as a 27-year-old Bay Minette woman, was also treated at Sacred Heart. No further information is available on her injuries or condition.

No charges have been filed at this time, according to the release. Troopers continue to investigate.

The death was one of five trooper-investigated fatalities during the Labor Day holiday period from 12:01 a.m. Friday, Aug. 31 to midnight Monday, Sept. 3.

It was the second ALEA-reported fatality in Baldwin County.

Just after 2 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 1, ALEA Troopers responded to a fatal single-vehicle crash on County Road 10 near the intersection of County Road 19 in Bon Secour.

Samuel E. Clayton, 22, of Foley, was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene when the 2011 Chrysler 300 he was a passenger in left the roadway, struck a group of trees and overturned several times.
