Heritage Junior Women’s Club hands distributes funds and awards at annual banquet

BAY MINETTE, Alabama — The Heritage Junior Women's Club recently held its end-of-year banquet, a time to present donations to charitable organizations, update service projects, and to recognize outstanding members of the community and the club.
The organization presented its Justice Lyn Stuart Community Service Award to Karmen Still, citing her as a "transformational leader" who strives to transform the community with a proactive and positive manner; working to foster and develop relationships with schools, industry, and community members.
Still has chaired the annual Rotary Chilly Run since its inception nearly a decade ago. She is a long-time member of Bay Minette Rotary Club and serves on the North Baldwin Infirmary Foundation Board. She is a charter member of Tiger For Life Alumni Association and serves on the city's Industrial Development Board, Baldwin County Economic Development Alliance, Impact 100 and volunteers as a "Big" with the Big Brother Big Sisters of South Alabama. She is also an active member of First United Methodist Church.
The award is named for Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice Lyn Stuart, a resident of Bay Minette and former president of the Heritage Junior Women’s Club.
HJWC presented is Clubwoman of the Year award to Sarah Lusk, a long-time member who has held numerous board and committee positions.

The Scholarship committee presented a $1,000 award to Leanne Phillips and $500 to Allison Jones, both graduating seniors at Baldwin County High School. Leanne will be attending Auburn University with an eye toward becoming a doctor. Allison will be student at the University of Alabama and plans to pursue a career in interior design.
At the banquet, HJWC handed out more than $8,000 to local organizations and individuals including: North Baldwin Coalition for Excellence in Education, $5,000; Leadership Scholarships, $1,500; Bay Minette Public Library, $1,000; Catfish Roundup, $250; BCHS Special Needs Prom, $100; Distinguished Young Women, $100; North Baldwin Literacy Council, $100.
At the banquet, representatives from NBCEE also presented more than $10,000 to teacher grant winners for the 2017-2018 school year. The winners include:
NORTH BALDWIN CENTER FOR TECHNOLOGY: Scott Larson, Simulated Workplace, $500.
BALDWIN COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL: Vickie Locke, Tools for Dyslexic Students, $500, Dan Nichols, Digital Literacy, $400 and Jolie Jones, Business and Education Unit, $380.
BAY MINETTE MIDDLE SCHOOL: Jennifer Jones, Water Works, $500; and Matthew Craig, Dress for Success, $500.
BAY MINETTE INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL: Shannon Garrett, Lego Story Starter, $481; Merlyne Kittrell, Imagination Station, $500 and Starla Sellers, Everyday Art, $200.
BAY MINETTE ELEMENTARY: Jan Smith, Breakout, $125; Kelli Wallace, Give Me a Break, $125; Cathy Phillips, Lil Bloomers, $500; Jenna Arndt, Read to Succeed, $500.
DELTA ELEMENTARY: Debra Thompson, Microscopic Investigations, $440.
STAPLETON ELEMENTARY: Lisa Comer, Sphere 2.0 Boot Camp, $500 and Whitney Roberts, Gross Motor Fun, $465.
PINE GROVE ELEMENTARY: Jaclyn Boatright, Character Center Stage, $500; Haylee Etheredge, Flexible Classroom Seating, $500; Donnashele Bruister, Taking Learning to the Next Level, $500; Julia Minto, Photography Club, $500.
PERDIDO SCHOOL: Kevin Dyess, Alice in Wonderland, $500; Linda McCullough, The Idaltrod, $412; Gerri McDonald, Radical Robots, $500.
