SILVERHILL, Alabama — The Oscar Johnson Memorial Library will host its annual summer reading program Friday, July 28 at 21967 Sixth St. in Silverhill.
The free program will be held from 9:30 a.m. to noon, featuring a live book reading, games, prizes and lunch will be provided for all in attendance.
This is the sixth year for the library’s Summer Reading Program. About 75 children and adults participate annually in the program, which is open to boys and girls ages 2 to 12.
The Oscar Johnson Memorial Library is one of the oldest buildings in Silverhill. The site of the original Svea Land Campany, the library is named for the town’s founder, who ran the company. It is listed on the National Registry of Historic Places.
The Non-Pariel Club took over the building and opened it as a library in 1922. The town took over the operation of the library from the Non-Pariel Club in 1975.
