Hello August! The first days of the 2023-2024 school year are quickly approaching, and this week's list has a variety of ways to end your summer break.

Spend an action-packed evening at the rodeo, spend a day enjoying a national park for free, run a 5K, or see the Bored Teacher comedians.

Jennifer Claire Moore Foundation Professional Rodeo

  • What: The annual Jennifer Claire Moore Foundation Professional Rodeo is always an action-packed event for a great cause. Eight nightly events include bareback bronc riding, saddle bronc riding, calf roping, steer wrestling, breakaway roping, barrel racing, team roping and bull riding. The money from the event, now in its 25th year, goes to support the JCMF Peer Helpers program and mental health resources.
  • When: Thursday, Aug. 3-Saturday, Aug. 5, gates open at 5:30 p.m., and the rodeo begins at 8 p.m.
  • Where: Robertsdale Arena, 19477 Fairground Road, Robertsdale
  • Price: General admission tickets are $18 for adults, $10 for children ages 3-12

Great American Outdoors Day

  • What: The National Park Service has five entrance fee-free days in 2023, and Saturday is Great American Outdoors Day. Visitors can enjoy the Bureau of Land Management, National Park Service and Fish and Wildlife Services wilderness areas, national conservation lands, national monuments, wildlife refuges and more.   • Price: Free

Combat Diver 5K Run/Walk

  • What: The Flora-Bama Combat Diver 5K is held in honor of SSG James Moriarty who was killed in action Nov. 4, 2016. All proceeds from the run benefit The Combat Diver Foundation and its goal of constructing a Combat Diver Museum. For more information or to register, visit www.combatdiver.org.

Bored Teachers "We Can't Make This Stuff Up!" Comedy Tour

  • What: Kick off the school year with a laugh. The Bored Teachers present the 2023 "We Can't Make This Stuff Up" comedy tour featuring the teacher-comedians like Tell Williams, Gerry Brooks, Vinny Thomas and Jess Merrill, just to name a few. The tour arrives in Pensacola this weekend. Tickets are still available, visit www.ticketmaster.com.

Back to School Bash

  • What: Enjoy the last days of summer and get ready for the new school year at Eastern Shore Lanes. Just for the event, ESL has a Fun Package on offer for $22 that includes bowling, laser tag, arcade and ropes course. Bring school supplies to donate, get a free haircut, visit the fire truck and police k9 and more.
