Bagel Boy's Alex Warner to open smashburger restaurant in Foley

The wait is over.

The teases can cease, and the rumor mill can stop turning.

Alex Warner and business partner, Marcus Owens, are ready to reveal their new downtown Foley venture: Cheeseburger Randy’s.

Warner’s creative genius, culinary knowledge and dynamic personality brought Bagel Boy to Foley. Even then, Warner has had big plans for the future. His goal was to open multiple concepts and bring tasty food and fun to downtown Foley.

Warner and Owens met working in restaurants and bars in Denver, Colorado, years ago and want to bring all that experience to this new venture.

Cheeseburger Randy’s will feature a small and specialized menu and a fun environment. Warner and Owens want to create a place for locals and visitors to grab lunch to go during the afternoon and hang out in the evenings.

“We are keeping the menu small and simple,” Warner said. “We want people to eat at our restaurant multiple times a week and not feel like it’s a special occasion. We want families to come in, and we want to be cheaper.”

Warner said their pricing will compete with local fast-food burgers without skimping on quality. Having a menu with limited items will allow them to keep costs down so they can pass the savings on to their customers.

One of the points that Owens and Warner want to convey to their future customers is this is a burger spot. That’s it. The menu will feature cheeseburgers, hamburgers, French fries, onion rings and beverages. Don’t come looking for a salad, grilled chicken or chicken tenders.

“Cheeseburger Randy’s is a hole in the wall with burgers, fries, onion rings with all outdoor seating,” Owens said. “It is a fun patio burger hangout that is going to be way cooler.”

Warner has been working on his burgers on and off over the last two years with the occasional pop-up and has been recipe-testing in recent months. He has even been working on a meat-free option.

Last week, Owens arrived in Baldwin County to settle temporarily, and the duo are ready to get the project underway. The space they have leased at 209 S. Alston St. needs little construction, and they plan to open in May if all goes as planned. And don't worry, Bagel Boy is still open.

“Hopefully," Warner said, "we are the kickoff to more businesses coming to that main street in Foley."
