Five Baldwin County football teams collected wins on Friday night where the Elberta Warriors’ 31-13 decision over LeFlore served as their first victory of 2023.

Bayside Academy, Daphne and St. Michael Catholic also found the win column as each continues a torrid scoring pace with scoring averages over 30 points per game. On the other side of the coin, the Baldwin County Tigers fell to the eighth-ranked Theodore Bobcats 27-24 in a back-and-forth battle that needed overtime.

Elberta 31, LeFlore 13

The Warriors’ first win of the campaign came with their highest point total since a similar win over the Rattlers at 31-12 on Oct. 7, 2021.

Senior Cole Ulrich showed out on both sides of the ball as he helped the Elberta defense shut down LeFlore with 4 total tackles to go along with 3 interceptions. He complemented that effort by being on the receiving end of a 95-yard touchdown pass.

With a 1-3 record and 1-2 mark in Class 5A Region 1, the Warriors will be open in Week 5 before a non-region home game against the Northview Chiefs from Florida on Sept. 29.

Daphne 56, Davidson 14

The Trojans put up the most points of the Kenny King era as quarterback Jamar Malone registered five total touchdowns with over 400 yards of offense.

Jaecyn Myles caught 2 touchdown passes from Malone and also broke off a 71-yard punt return for a touchdown to help Daphne eclipse the 50-point threshold for the first time since two big region wins in 2021. Friday served as the Trojans’ largest point total since a 56-18 win over Citronelle on Sept. 18, 2015.

Malone finished with 344 yards on 22-of-29 passing with 3 touchdowns to go along with 59 rushing yards on 7 carries with 2 touchdowns. Myles collected 75 receiving yards on 4 catches with the 2 scores.

Daphne moves to 3-1 overall and 2-0 within Class 7A Region 1 with another road trip scheduled, this one against the Baker Hornets.

Bayside Academy 41, Wilcox Central 19

Sophomore quarterback Sammy Dunn orchestrated another standout performance for the Admirals with 5 touchdown throws as part of a 14-of-18 passing effort that went for 269 yards.

Four different receivers caught touchdown passes as he connected with Tait Moore on a 30-yard hookup as well as a 41-yard pitch and catch to Wills Norton out of the gates. A Damien Tate rushing touchdown gave Bayside Academy a 21-0 lead in the first quarter.

In the third quarter, Bo Anderson was led to the end zone over the middle and completed a 19-yard scoring pass with a one-handed catch before Miles Uter caught a pass and withstood a hit only to outrace the defense to the end zone for a 52-yard touchdown.

The Admirals improved to 4-0 overall for the second straight season which marked the first time since the 2010 and 2011 campaigns. Bayside Academy will take its 2-0 record in Class 4A Region 1 into this week’s away game against the Jackson Aggies.

St. Michael Catholic 41, Escambia County 26

The Cardinals’ second 40-point output of the season scored a key region win where sophomore Brody Jones caught 3 touchdown passes.

Freshman Gunner Rivers connected with Jones on nearly half of his 17 completions where the receiver caught 9 passes for 155 receiving yards and all 3 of Rivers’ scoring throws. The quarterback also provided a 1-yard rushing touchdown on top of 258 passing yards.

Another sophomore in Noah Moss carried the load in the St. Michael backfield to a workhorse tune of 237 rushing yards on 34 carries with 2 touchdowns.

The Cardinals improved to 2-2 overall and 1-1 within Class 4A Region 1 with another home game set for this week against the Satsuma Gators.

No. 8 Theodore 27, Baldwin County 24 (OT)

After hanging with the Spanish Fort Toros in a 14-13 battle last week, the Tigers went back and forth with No. 8 Theodore and managed two leads but couldn’t hold on through the extra period.

A second touchdown from the Preston Kiper-Ti Mims connection gave Baldwin County a 14-7 lead going into the halftime break.

Down the stretch, Koby Johnson provided a 55-yard scoop-and-score fumble recovery for a touchdown to put the Tigers on top of the Bobcats 21-14 with 5:59 left in the third quarter. Last week, Johnson was voted the Seacrest Furniture Athlete of the Week after one of his two interceptions was returned 50 yards for a touchdown.

Kiper threw touchdown passes of 18 and 13 yards as part of a 15-completion, 130-yard night where Mims caught 4 passes for 46 receiving yards. Damorien Andrews led the Baldwin County receiving corps with 72 yards on 9 catches.

The Tigers fell to 0-3 overall and 0-2 in Class 6A Region 1 with a road contest against the Blount Leopards scheduled for Week 5.

No. 10 Baker 51, Foley 44

Kolton Nero logged 270 rushing yards on 27 carries with 4 touchdowns and Perry Thompson caught 8 passes for 87 receiving yards with 1 touchdown. Shaborn Oaks caught Nelson Thompson’s other touchdown pass as part of a 4-catch, 60-yard night where the quarterback finished with 203 passing yards on 16 completions.

Kicker Matt Owen closed the scoring with a 55-yard freekick after Foley made a fair catch at the Baker 45-yard line. WHEP Radio reported it was only the third freekick in the 100-year history of the Lions. Foley football historian and current Snook Christian head football coach Keith Smith added that Drew Wenzel connected on a freekick during the playoff game against Pelham on Nov. 15, 1996.
