Fans of the Ballyhoo Festival may have felt disappointment as the Ballyhoo Festival did not take place this past weekend (March 2-3). However, the festival will be here before we know it.
According to a Feb. 28 statement, the Board of Directors of the Ballyhoo Festival made the decision to postpone the festival. According to Eloise Thomley, festival director, the decision to postpone the festival was made due to the expected inclement weather expected for the weekend.
"We felt the circumstances would provide too much danger to our artists, their art and their equipment as well as our volunteers and all others involved with implementing the festival," Thomley said. "We are, however, way ahead now with the exception of some sign changing and other things to do."
According to Thomley, the festival will be rescheduled to April 6-7.
About the festival:
A celebration of art and culture, the Ballyhoo Festival features fine art from all across the southeast, local seafood and live music. The festival is also host to a fiddle and banjo competition, with up to $3,000 in cash prizes.
Additionally, the festival offers live demonstrations of wood carving, pine needle basket weaving and oil and charcoal painting.
