Chick-fil-A debuts honey pepper pimento chicken sandwich, fall-themed milkshake

The human tongue can identify five basic taste qualities: sweet, sour, bitter, salty and umami (savory). The newest additions to Chick-fil-A's menu will satisfy each one.

Chick-fil-A will roll out what its says is the first-ever seasonal spin on the Original Chick-fil-A chicken sandwich company-wide. The honey pepper pimento chicken sandwich will be available Aug. 28.

The culinary team didn’t hold back when developing the new recipe as they threw almost everything into the mix. The new sandwich features creamy pimento cheese piled high on the savory classic fried chicken filet, the traditional pickles were replaced with mild pickled jalapenos for a little heat, and the whole thing is drizzled with sweet honey. Who knew the Southern staple could get even more Southern?

"We wanted to create a standout sandwich that would deliver a unique spin for our guests without losing the classic taste of the original Chick-fil-A chicken sandwich,” Chick-fil-A chef Stuart Tracey said in a statement. “The honey pepper pimento chicken sandwich uses ingredients and flavors our guests have never experienced at Chick-fil-A before, balancing savory, sweet and spicy elements using the highest quality ingredients. With our custom-made pimento cheese and specially sourced jalapenos, we hope to deliver a new and exciting sandwich our guests will love.”

The new sandwich was tested in the Asheville, North Carolina, market as well as upstate South Carolina in 2020. During testing, it was rated high on taste and value and surpassing other seasonal test sandwiches.

A little extra sweet

The honey pepper pimento chicken sandwich isn’t arriving alone Aug. 28. The new sandwich is being accompanied by a fall-themed sweet treat.

The caramel crumble milkshake features butterscotch caramel flavors, blondie crumbles hand-spun with Chick-fil-A Icedream and topped with whipped cream and a cherry. The perfect sweet companion to wash down the new sandwich.

The new milkshake flavor was tested in the Salt Lake City, Utah, market in 2021. Its creator, Chick-Fil-A chef Christy Cook, found her recipe inspiration in the bottom of a blondie pan where the flavors caramelized.
