ROBERTSDALE — Despite being delayed a year because of concerns over COVID-19 Baldwin County residents came out Sept. 21-25 to celebrate the return of the Baldwin County Fair at the Fairgrounds, Coliseum and Arena in Robertsdale.

“Seven Decades Serving Baldwin” was the theme for this year’s celebration. After weeks of wet weather created soggy conditions, the decision was made to move the Arnold Amusements midway onto the paved and sandy areas on the west side of the Fairgrounds, instead of the east side.

Overcast but mild conditions greeted guests who enjoyed the festivities which included rides on the midway, a wide variety of food, exhibits inside the Baldwin County Coliseum, animal exhibits and the annual Bo Campbell Rodeo outside in the arena.

There were also attractions, like a duck pond, baby chick exhibit, petting zoo, the Teeny Weeny Circus and South Alabama Antique Tractor & Engine Club exhibits; and the annual FCCLA Sweet Potato Contest was held Wednesday.

Thursday saw the return of Senior Citizens and Military Day with free admission for those over 65 and both active military personnel and veterans. There was also special entertainment by the Flashback band.

Established in 1948, the Baldwin County Fair draws thousands of residents from throughout Baldwin County and the surrounding area each year.

Each year, the fair features more than 1,000 competitive exhibits, including antiques, art, crafts and hobbies, environmental art, scrapbooking, sewing, food preparation and preservation, horticulture and agronomy, photography and livestock exhibits, along with environmental exhibits, featuring schools and civic organizations.
