114-pound champ set to close her high school career, future Montevallo teammates set for taste of what’s to come

A state champion and a pair of future Montevallo teammates will represent Baldwin County at the second-annual North-South All-Star wrestling dual hosted by the Alabama Wrestling Coaches Association at Huntingdon College on Saturday, March 9.

Emily Smith from Daphne is in the girls’ lineup at 114 pounds with Gulf Shores’ Ethan Sharkey (126) and Baldwin County’s Alia Vickrey (157) amongst the boys’ starters. Wrestling is scheduled to start at 10 a.m.

At last year’s inaugural event, the South All-Stars won the girls’ competition 18-9 and the North All-Stars won the boys’ dual 28-25.

Smith ready to shine for Trojans

The 114-pound champion from Daphne, Smith will draw Kloe Robb from Sparkman in the opening match of the girls’ dual. Smith marks the second straight Trojan honored by the ALWCA after Kalee Holder represented Daphne High School in the 165-pound division during the inaugural competition.

The other South All-Stars include Caidence Sellars (132) and Nevaeh Jackson (145) from Central-Phenix City as well as Emily Lehr (152/165) from Auburn. Tuscaloosa County’s Audrey Canterberry (132), Auburn’s Kaelyn Coburn (145) and Grissom’s Autumn Quirk (165) round out the North All-Star lineup.

Future Falcons set for first taste of future

On the boys’ side, a pair of future Montevallo Falcons with triple-digit career win totals will wrestle their first match as teammates when Sharkey will square off with Dora’s Jayden Rouse and Vickrey will draw Jasper’s Garrett Caldwell.

Sharkey, too, marks a repeat all-star representative for his team after Lucas Salcedo was the 195-pound all-star at last year’s dual. Vickrey becomes the first Baldwin County Tiger named an all-star by the ALWCA.

Sharkey, a four-time state qualifier, signed to wrestle and run outdoor track on Jan. 24 and Vickrey, a two-time state qualifier, announced his commitment on Feb. 20. Both finished their senior seasons at the state tournament this winter.

Other South All-Stars include Pike Road’s John Duncan (113), Huntsville’s Wallace Blue (120), Wetumpka’s Noah Smith (132) and Willie Cox (285), Jasper’s Cooper Brooks (138), Northside Methodist’s David Bailey (144), St. John Paul II’s Jack Von Eschenbach (150), Gardendale’s Daishun Powe (165), McAdory’s Christion Griggs (175), Leeds’ Hunter Scott (190) and Spain Park’s Kyle Oliveira (215).
