Six basketball players from Baldwin County were recognized by the Alabama Sports Writers Association with all-state distinction following the season. One each was selected to the Class 7A second- and third-team all-state and four more garnered honorable mentions.

Both female representatives, junior classmates Keiyonla Knight from Foley and Keyona Royal from Gulf Shores, were also named to the Alabama High School Athletic Association’s North-South All-Star roster on Saturday.

In Alabama’s largest classification, Knight was a second-team all-state honoree from the Foley Lions who reached a second straight Elite Eight. Similarly, senior McRae Taul was a third-team all-state selection from the Fairhope Pirates who collected their fifth consecutive Class 7A Area 2 title.

Taul was joined by Alabama commit Spence Sims in representing the Fairhope Pirates as a Class 7A all-state honorable mention. On the Class 6A circuit, Baldwin County High School senior Jay Bolar was an all-state honorable mention where Gulf Coast Media readers also recognized him, Sims, Taul and Knight during the season as Seacrest Furniture Athletes of the Week.

Following a historic run to Gulf Shores’ first Final Four, Dolphin junior Royal earned all-state honorable mentions in Class 5A. The 5-foot-11 forward will return to help the transition to Class 6A after Gulf Shores was moved up due to enrollment following the AHSAA’s recent reclassification.

The first Alabama Independent School Association All-Star in Snook Christian history, Roshad Harris added an all-state honorable mention to his standout senior season.

According to MaxPreps stats, Harris led AISA’s Class A in points per game (25.4, fourth in the state overall), assists per game (5.2, eighth in the state overall) and steals per game (4.1, seventh in the state overall). On the season, his 180 free throws made were third in the state and 42nd in the country, his 202 field goals made ranked No. 12 in the state, his 50 three-pointers made were 36th in the state and his 7 double-doubles were 48th in Alabama.
