Juanita Johnson Smith

Juanita Johnson Smith, 95, passed away peacefully at her home in Fairhope, Alabama, on July 26, 2023. She was born September 17, 1927, at Saucier, Mississippi. She was married to Wallace E. Smith of Covena, Georgia. They had a family of five children and lived in Long Beach and Ocean Springs, Mississippi. After the death of her husband and Hurricane Katrina in 2005, Juanita moved to Fairhope. She was devoted to her church and to her family. She was a homemaker and teacher at both public schools and her church.

She was preceded in death by her parents Isaac W. Johnson Sr. and Laura May Whittington Johnson; her husband, Wallace E. Smith, Sr.; four brothers, Issac Johnson Jr., Coy Johnson, Rex Johnson, and Donivan Johnson; and two sisters, Lola Milhone and Dona Pack. Survivors are four sons; Wallace Edmond Smith, Jr., Dannie Smith, Issac Samuel Smith, and Paul Smith; daughter, Wanda Smith Mallett; ten grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; brothers Hilliard Johnson and Kent Johnson; and sisters Grace Denning and TroyVee Dortch.

A celebration of life will be at Johnson-Bethel Cemetery in Saucier, Mississippi at a time to be announced. In lieu of flowers, Juanita requested that memorial gifts be made to either First United Methodist Church, 155 South Section Street, Fairhope, Alabama 36532, or St Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, Tennessee, 38105.
