Raising funds swing by swing: South Baldwin's Golf Fore! Education event gears up

Posted

Take to the links for a worthy cause Oct. 6 as the third-annual Golf Fore! Education golf tournament takes over GlenLakes Golf Club.

The annual tournament raises funds for the South Baldwin Chamber Foundation, which supports 11 public schools and three private schools in South Baldwin County. The foundation's mission is to enhance lives through programs and partnerships that enrich education, develop leadership and better the community.

Past tournaments have generated nearly $30,000, and this year's goal is to raise $15,000 to fund the foundation's programs.

"The proceeds from this tournament are used to support our student and teacher grant program and leadership development programs such as our Junior Ambassador and EPIC programs," said Rachel Spear, SBCF director of events. "Additionally, when the schools have needs, they reach out to us to help fulfill them. Most recently, we helped support a new student orientation at Elberta High School."

This year's event has had a change of venue, giving participants a new course to play. Spear said the past two tournaments were held at Rock Creek Golf Course in Fairhope.

"Since we are a Chamber of Commerce, which is a membership-based organization, we do our best to do business with as many of our members as possible," Spears said. "We have loved working with all our member golf courses and look forward to hosting another event with GlenLakes."

Golfers interested in competing have plenty of time to register for the fun day on the links. Teams and individuals have till Oct. 4 to register.

What Can You Expect?

Golfers will start the day with lunch provided by The Pub at GlenLakes before the noon shotgun start. While out on the course, golfers will have the opportunity to participate in fun games and raffles with sponsors. There is also a silent auction. The registration fee includes lunch, range balls and two free alcoholic beverages for each player.
