Week 5 is filled with more crucial contests for Baldwin County’s high school football teams with big region matchups on the docket.

Possibly the most critical will come in Jackson from a meeting of unbeaten teams as the Aggies host the Bayside Academy Admirals in Class 4A Region 1 action. That game will also showcase a pair of sophomore standout signal-callers.

With only two local teams playing at home, stay tuned to gulfcoastmedia.com/sports for a full roundup of scores and highlights. For immediate updates from the sidelines, follow @GCMSportsAL on social media.

No. 9 Bayside Academy Admirals at No. 4 Jackson Aggies: Friday, Sept. 22, 7 p.m.
Team records entering play: Both teams began region play 2-0 where Bayside Academy opened 4-0, Jackson started 3-0. Last year: Aggies won 30-10 in teams’ first meeting.

A contest with major implications to the top of the Class 4A Region 1 standings, both Bayside Academy and Jackson will enter Friday’s matchup undefeated. Each squad started region play 2-0 where the Admirals defeated Wilcox Central 41-19, and the Aggies beat T.R. Miller 38-7.

The Bayside Academy-Jackson contest will also feature a pair of sophomore standouts at quarterback between the Admirals’ Sammy Dunn and the Aggies’ Landon Duckworth, a South Carolina commit.

According to MaxPreps stats at the beginning of the week, Dunn had racked up 791 passing yards on 50 completions with 11 touchdowns over four games. In three games for Jackson, Duckworth had thrown for 699 yards on 39 completions with 10 touchdowns and added 141 rushing yards on 14 carries with a touchdown.

In the newest edition of the Alabama Sports Writers Association’s state poll, Bayside Academy checked in as the ninth-ranked team in Class 4A for its first appearance in the top 10 since 2021.

However, Jackson, who has been ranked No. 4 all season, has already registered two wins over teams previously ranked No. 9 this season. The Aggies took down Demopolis 35-7 in Week 2 and followed that up with a 38-7 win over T.R. Miller last week.

Satsuma Gators at St. Michael Cardinals: Thursday, Sept. 21, 7 p.m.
Team records entering play: Both teams started 1-1 in region where St. Michael is 2-2 overall and Satsuma is 3-1. Last year: Cardinals won 45-8 in teams’ first meeting.

The high-flying Cardinals have been enjoying time at home where Thursday night will be the fourth out of five straight games in Fairhope. Satsuma will be the third and final opponent from Class 4A Region 1 where both teams enter with 1-1 records in the group.

After a second 40-point effort this season last week, St. Michael will look for similar results to last year’s 45-8 takedown of the Gators. While Satsuma has opened the season 3-1 overall including a 17-15 win over Orange Beach last week, it has registered only 19.3 points per game compared to the Cardinals’ 32.8 through four games.

Davidson Warriors at Fairhope Pirates: Friday, Sept. 22, 7 p.m.

Team records entering play: Fairhope brings a 1-3 record with one loss in region, Davidson owns a 1-2 mark with both losses in region. Last year: Pirates won 55-28. All-time series: Fairhope leads 27-7.

While both teams will be looking for bounce-back wins, Fairhope will have home-field advantage Friday night.

The Pirates have battled to two straight 24-10 defeats where last week’s opened region action. Jackson Robertson got his first start at quarterback for Fairhope last week after running back Preston Godfrey served as the main signal-caller the previous weeks. The Pirates will be looking for their first 20-plus-point performance of the season.

Davidson has already seen the highs and lows of scoring records where the Warriors set a new program best for single-game scoring with a 59-46 win in their season-opening game which also set a new high for points scored by both teams. The following week, Davidson set a school record for most points allowed in a 66-28 loss to Baker.
