AUBURN UNIVERSITY — While deer-hunting season is over, another hunting season is just on the horizon: turkey season. Alabama hunters can shake off the winter blues and gear up for the 2024 turkey season through the "The Best Turkey Season Ever" webinar. This webinar — hosted by the Alabama Cooperative Extension System — is March 12 at 6:30 p.m. via Zoom. No matter how many years you have spent in the woods, there is always more to learn.

About the Webinar

Jed Smart, the Alabama Extension county coordinator for Pickens County, said the webinar is designed to benefit turkey hunters of all ages and has been helping hunters prepare for the last four years.

"One of our strongest economic areas in Pickens County is hunting," Smart said. "We have countless people and groups that own or lease hunting land within the county. We also have several hunting lodges where people come from around the globe for some of the finest hunting you can find anywhere."

Smart invites all turkey-hunting enthusiasts to tune in to the webinar. He said the webinar is designed to provide a snapshot of turkey hunting in Alabama, and there is something for everyone — from beginner to expert.

Topics for this year include the following:

  • Environment
  • Equipment
  • Rules and regulations
  • Preparation
  • Mounting

Presenters include Alabama Extension wildlife professionals and Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources wildlife and freshwater fisheries professionals.

“We want everyone to have the opportunity to learn more about turkey calling, hunting safety, mounting options and more,” Smart said.

How to Tune In

"The Best Turkey Season Ever" is free to attend March 12 at 6:30 p.m. CST. Participants must register online to be able to attend the webinar. Upon registering, a Zoom meeting number and link will be provided. Register by visiting www.aces.edu/go/turkeyseason24.
