The Alabama Scholastic Press Association (ASPA) announced the return of the Multicultural Journalism Workshop (MJW) for high school media students in 2024.

Held over 10 days on the campus of The University of Alabama, this intensive journalism workshop equips students from multicultural or underrepresented backgrounds with essential tools and experiences to refine their writing skills, explore multimedia reporting and engage in design and production techniques. Participants will also have the opportunity to build connections with industry professionals.

In addition to journalistic training, students will delve into the rich history of the Black Belt Region of Alabama through museum visits, walking tours and local restaurant experiences.

Scheduled from Friday, May 31, to Sunday, June 9, the 2024 MJW program offers an all-inclusive experience for accepted students, covering expenses except for travel to Tuscaloosa. Eligible applicants include high school students in grades 9-12, with recently graduated seniors also encouraged to apply, even if they are awaiting their first semester of college.

With a limited capacity of 10 students, prospective applicants are urged to submit their applications as soon as possible. The deadline for submissions is April 1.
