2024 private pesticide applicator trainings offered throughout Alabama

Posted

AUBURN UNIVERSITY — Throughout this year, the Alabama Cooperative Extension System is offering private pesticide applicator trainings at many county Extension offices and other locations across the state.
Sonja Thomas, the Alabama Extension pesticide safety education coordinator, said this is a valuable training for pesticide applicators.

“The private applicator trainings serve to certify any producer or grower who needs to purchase restricted-use pesticides to use on an agricultural commodity,” Thomas said. “This permit is required to purchase restricted-use pesticides, but the Alabama Department of Agriculture and Industries allows the applicator to decide which method they prefer.”

There are more than 30 planned trainings this year, most of which happen in February and March. To see the current list of private applicator training events, visit the 2024 Alabama Private Applicator Training Events web page on the Alabama Extension website, www.aces.edu. Thomas updates this list of trainings as county Extension offices report new dates. However, you can also contact your county’s Extension office to see if there are any events that have not yet made the list. For more information on these trainings, contact the listed agent or meeting facilitator for the location you wish to attend.

For those that cannot attend a private pesticide applicator training in person, there is an online training opportunity. Visit the Alabama Private Applicator Online Training Program web page on www.aces.edu to find other ways to receive your permit.
