Three Fairhope teens, ages 14, 16 and 17, were arrested Monday in connection to nearly a dozen vehicle thefts over the weekend.

In a statement released Monday afternoon, Fairhope Police Department said in total 11 vehicles and three guns were stolen over a two-day period. Ten vehicles have been located by officers and returned to their owners. Officers also located one of the three stolen weapons.

After the two initial reports, Fairhope police spotted one of the stolen vehicles Sunday evening and attempted to pull the driver over. The occupants abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. No one was taken into custody at the time, but information was obtained that led to the arrests.

Police released a list of the thefts and the area where they occurred:

  • Bell Chase neighborhood – one vehicle and one gun
  • Nichols Avenue 100 block – one vehicle
  • Summit Street – one vehicle
  • County Road 34 9000 block – one vehicle and one gun
  • Old Battles Village – one vehicle and one gun
  • Firethorne neighborhood – two vehicles
  • Southland Place – one vehicle
  • Echo Lane – two vehicles
  • Woodmere Drive – one vehicle

“While blame is squarely on the individuals arrested, keys left in unlocked vehicles certainly created greater opportunity,” Lt. Shane Nolte stated in the press release. “We cannot stress enough to residents about properly securing their vehicles and homes.”

Two teens have been charged with receiving stolen property and one with theft in the first degree. The investigation is ongoing and additional charges are expected.
