On March 27 at 10 a.m., the Foley Public Library is set to host a Coffee and Donuts with an Author event, showcasing the literary talents of Mobile native Judy Culbreth. This month's event will highlight Culbreth's latest work, "Bedford Garden Club Originals: New York's Eloise Luquer and Delia Marble."

The book delves into the intriguing lives of two neighbors who, in 1911, played pivotal roles in establishing one of America's earliest garden clubs in Bedford, New York. Eloise Luquer and Delia Marble, both in their 40s at the time, went on to become prominent members of the Garden Club of America. Through their affiliations and unique personalities, they unlocked their untapped potential, showcasing how women, one friendship at a time, can effect significant change in their communities and beyond.

Luquer's mastery of wildflower watercolors earned her the moniker "The Audubon of Wildflowers," while Marble spearheaded the Bedford Agricultural Training Camp for Women, a pioneering effort during WWI. Together, alongside other allies, these small-town spinsters left an impactful mark on cultural and environmental history.

Author Judy Culbreth boasts an illustrious career in journalism, including roles at Seventeen, Ladies' Home Journal, Redbook and Working Mother. She was a founder in establishing Take Our Daughters to Work Day and contributed her editing skills to NBC's Today Show. Culbreth, recognized as a DAR national Dazzling Daughter, resides in Fairhope with her husband.
