Baldwin County High School had five student-athletes sign scholarships on Wednesday, Dec. 6, to play at the next level including four in baseball and one for volleyball.

Saylor Bryant signed a volleyball scholarship with Northwest Mississippi Community College. Bryant has been on the volleyball team for three years and has played many roles on the court.

“When Saylor was asked to play a position she played it to the best of her ability and with the same strong work ethic she is known for,” head volleyball coach Betty Heaton said. “She has brought leadership and dependability to the volleyball program. Saylor's commitment and drive to play volleyball will be the cornerstone in which she will be able to build her future success.”

The Tiger baseball program had four signees, including Landon Walker to the University of Montevallo, Eli Woody and Quincy Walters to Coastal Alabama Community College and Jaxon Schuler to Bishop State Community College.

Walker is a left-handed pitcher and outfielder where he struck out 50 batters last year in 30 innings pitched with a 3.7 ERA. As a hitter, Walker hit .329 as a junior.

“Landen is the hardest worker we have on the team, and I am excited for him and his family," head baseball coach Trenton Higginbothem said. “He shared that his work ethic was evident over the recent Thanksgiving break when Landen was consistently working on his game through the holiday.”

Woody is a new member to the team and will be one of the catchers for the Tigers this year. Higginbothem said it's hard to move to a new community and school, particularly in a senior year, but Woody has hit the ground running.

“He has fit in really well with our guys. He is a very knowledgeable young man in the classroom and on the field,” he said. “We are expecting big things from him this year.”

As a junior, Walters hit .327 with 13 extra-base hits, 20 RBIs and 38 runs scored.

“He is the leader of our team. He gets better versus better competition,” Higginbothem said. “He had a great playoff series where we faced a pitcher going to Southern Miss and a pitcher going to Alabama.”

Schuler is a left-handed pitcher and also plays a really good first base. He hit .295 and added 23 RBIs.

“Unfortunately, he was sidelined with an arm injury, but overcame adversity and really helped our club offensively,” Higginbothem said, adding that he was going to be a huge asset for Bishop State.
