BRATS and Bay Minette police help 49 stranded Tennessee church youth group bus passengers

Posted

When a Tennessee church youth group got stranded in Bay Minette due to their bus catching fire, Baldwin County's transit system got to work.

Baldwin Regional Transit System received a call from Bay Minette Police Cpl. Paul Adams around 2:30 p.m. on June 23 requesting help with transporting a church group to their final destination after being stranded on Hwy. 59 south of the city.

The church youth group of 49 passengers was traveling from Smryna, Tennessee, to the Gulf Shores Christian Retreat on West Beach Boulevard when the incident occurred. Adams was concerned with the safety of the students due to the traffic and excessive heat and asked BRATS for assistance, according to the county.

Three BRATS buses operated by Ron Stewart, fleet and driver manager, Joy Callaway, driver supervisor, and Joey Braswell, mechanic, were dispatched to assist the youth group and arrived at the retreat by 5:30 p.m. despite heavy beach traffic.
