Daphne mayor seeks volunteers for Metropolitan Planning Committees

Daphne Mayor Robin LeJeune is asking for volunteers.

LeJeune announced during the mayor's report segment of the Oct. 2 regular city council meeting that the city has three vacancies to fill on two committees for the Eastern Shore Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO). Daphne needs two volunteers for the Bicycle and Pedestrian Committee and one for the Advisory Committee. Any residents interested should contact the mayor's office at (251) 620-1000 .

The Eastern Shore MPO was formed in 2012 to assist with transportation planning in the urbanized area of Baldwin County, which includes Spanish Fort, Fairhope, Daphne and Loxley. Representatives from all areas included work together with local governments on the Eastern Shore in matters relating to planning for highways, public transit, bicycles and pedestrians, freights and other modes of transportation.

Also during the regular council meeting, council:

  • Authorized the mayor to enter into an agreement with RoadBotics for pavement assessment software for $17,500. The software uses proprietary technology and methods to provide pavement assessments using machine vision and artificial intelligence. Part of the $17,500 is the annual subscription fee of $4,375 per year;
  • Authorized the mayor to execute an agreement with Grant Management for $52,000 a year beginning Oct. 1. Grant Management has been providing grant writing and grant management services for the city since 2015. The money was approved in the budget;
  • Approved a request for the Darlings of Eastern Shore Earth Day 5K to use Main Street for the run, which will take place April, 20, 2024, from 8-11 a.m;
  • Approved a resolution declaring a 1997 vehicle lift as surplus;
  • Approved awarding the bid for the Daphne Public Library roof repair to Dobson Sheet Metal and Roofing Inc. for $231,200;
  • Adopted ordinance 2023-36 to adjust speed limits and post speed limit signs;
  • Adopted ordinance 2023-37, which repeals and replaces ordinance 2022-64 regarding the rules and regulations for all Daphne City Parks; and
  • Adopted ordinance 2023-38, which amends the city's employee handbook section 10.8.
