All 12 of Baldwin County’s varsity football teams will be in action in Week 8 of the regular season where three intra-county matchups span different classifications as the region playoff standings get clearer and clearer.

The Daphne Trojans will hit the road to face the Fairhope Pirates in Class 7A, the Gulf Shores Dolphins have an away contest against the Elberta Warriors in Class 5A and the Orange Beach Makos will host the Bayside Academy Admirals in Class 4A, all with Friday-night kickoffs scheduled.

Three more teams — Foley, Snook Christian and St. Michael — also have home games scheduled but if you can’t make it in person, follow @GCMSportsAL on social media for live updates and visit gulfcoastmedia.com/sports for full coverage.

Bayside Academy Admirals at Orange Beach Makos: Friday, Oct. 13

Team records entering play: Bayside Academy will enter 4-2 and 2-2 in Class 4A Region 1, Orange Beach will enter 0-6 and 0-4 in region. Last year: Makos won 35-29 in teams’ first meeting.

Both teams will be coming off tough losses looking to right the ship in the standings. Orange Beach is set to wrap up a three-game home stand before finishing the season with two away games.

Bayside Academy sophomore quarterback Sammy Dunn eclipsed the century mark with 128 passing yards in last week's loss to T.R. Miller. On the year, his 69 completions have amassed 1,005 passing yards where senior Tait Moore is the leading receiver with 312 yards on 18 catches.

Senior classmate Teague Broadhead, a Southern Miss baseball commit, leads the Admiral defense with 57 total tackles between 41 solos and 16 assists including 4 tackles for loss, 1 sack and 3 quarterback hurries.

Daphne Trojans at Fairhope Pirates: Friday, Oct. 13

Team records entering play: Daphne will enter 3-3 and 2-1 in Class 7A Region 1, Fairhope will enter 1-5 and 0-3 in region. Last year: Pirates won 26-7. All-time series: Trojans lead 24-10.

Similarly, each team lost its last time out where Daphne will be coming off a bye week.

It will be the third straight week with a rivalry matchup featuring an Eastern Shore team that started when the Trojans hosted Spanish Fort on Sept. 29. Last week, the Fairhope Pirates traveled to face their longtime rival Foley Lions for the teams’ 101st meeting before the 25th installment of the Daphne-Fairhope series.

While the Trojans come from a newer school, they hold a two-possession lead in the all-time rivalry at 24-10.

No. 1 Gulf Shores Dolphins at Elberta Warriors: Friday, Oct. 13

Team records entering play: Gulf Shores will enter 7-0 and 5-0 in Class 5A Region 1, Elberta will enter 2-4 and 1-3 in region. Last year: Dolphins won 49-3. All-time series: Gulf Shores leads 2-1.

Gulf Shores takes its No. 1 ranking on the road for the first time and will keep it in county to square off with an Elberta squad that registered a win last time it played at John T. Cobb Stadium.

The Dolphins’ average point allowance of 9.0 per game ranks 10th in the state among teams that have played seven games, and first in Class 5A.
