Orange Beach state champion Favors commits to South Carolina softball

Two-time state tournament MVP, No. 2 prospect set to join SEC after time with Makos

Orange Beach junior Kaylee Grace “KG” Favors, one of the nation’s top prospects in the Class of 2025, announced Monday night her commitment to the South Carolina Gamecock softball program.

As part of the Makos’ three straight state championships, Favors earned MVP honors from the last two state tournaments. She was also recognized by the Alabama Sports Writers Association on all-state teams each season.

“It has always been a dream of mine, since I was a kid, to play at this level. I want to say thank you to God. Without Him, none of this would be possible,” Favors wrote on social media Oct. 2. “Secondly, I want to thank my parents for everything they have done. They are my biggest supporters and I wouldn’t be anywhere without them and their sacrifices.”

She also shared a token of appreciation for her current and future coaches.

“I also want to thank my coaches Cam and Brandon for all the effort and support they have put into me. They have made me the player I am today,” Favors wrote. “I also want to say thank you to the coaching staff: Coach Bev, Coach Crash, Coach Kevin, and Coach Jake for this opportunity and making my dream come true. Go Gamecocks!”

Two weekends ago, Favors made a visit to the South Carolina campus after she visited the University of Kentucky the previous weekend. Amidst playing for the Birmingham Thunderbolts this summer, she also competed in camps at schools including Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, Kentucky and Alabama.

Favors has been a crucial piece to Orange Beach’s three state titles in as many varsity seasons.

This past spring in the Makos’ step up to Class 4A, Favors recorded 30 appearances in the pitcher’s circle, including 27 starts which led to 18 complete games according to stats on MaxPreps. She finished with a 21-6 record and a 1.54 ERA in 154.1 innings pitched. Opposing batters registered a .137 batting average and 200 strikeouts.

Not only that, but Favors added a .413 batting average when she was at the plate over 50 games. She racked up 52 hits, including 7 home runs, 14 doubles and 2 triples, to go along with 47 RBIs, 19 runs scored and an OPS (on-base plus slugging) of 1.222.

Offensively, 5 hits and 7 RBIs came in the state tournament and defensively, Favors pitched 15 strikeouts in 17 innings in the final stretch to the Blue Map.

The Orange Beach standout will serve as another familiar face in the Southeastern Conference after a pair of classmates committed to either side of the Iron Bowl rivalry. Fellow Mako Daigle Wilson made a pledge to Auburn on Sept. 18 before Vic Moten, an all-state pitcher for the Daphne Trojans, committed to Alabama on Sept. 26.

Favors will join a South Carolina squad that finished 40-22 overall last season with a 9-15 mark in SEC play. Despite a No. 10 seed in the postseason tournament, the Gamecocks became the lowest seed in SEC Tournament history to make the finals before falling to top-seeded Tennessee.
