Playoff spots on the line in Week 9 for Baldwin County football teams

Bayside Academy, Foley, Snook Christian could lock up top-four finishes

With only three weeks left in the regular season, some teams’ playoff positioning might come down to math and tiebreakers. However, a win in Week 9 could wash some of those scenarios away and a few local teams have that opportunity this week.

In Class 7A Region 1, Foley and Davidson are the final two teams in the group that have yet to either clinch a playoff spot or have been eliminated in the standings. In Class 4A Region 1, a Bayside Academy win over Escambia County would bump the Blue Devils out of top-four positioning.

In the Alabama Independent School Association’s Class A Region 2, Snook Christian and Sparta Academy enter Thursday’s battle with the fourth and final postseason position on the line in a five-team region. In a similar situation last year, the Eagles’ 46-32 victory in 2022 secured the program’s first trip to the playoffs since 2018.

Escambia County Blue Devils at Bayside Academy Admirals: Friday, Oct. 20

Team records entering play: Both teams will enter 5-2 and 3-2 in Class 4A Region 1. Last year: Bayside Academy won 66-48. All-time series: Admirals leads 3-0.

Foley Lions at Davidson Warriors: Friday, Oct. 20

Team records entering play: Foley will enter 4-3 and 2-2 in Class 7A Region 1, Davidson will enter 3-4 and 1-3 in region. Last year: Lions won 43-41. All-time series: Warriors lead 10-6.

Snook Christian Eagles at Sparta Academy Warriors: Friday, Oct. 20

Team records entering play: Snook Christian will enter 0-7 and 0-3 in Class A Region 2, Sparta Academy will enter 0-8 and 0-3 in region. Last year: Eagles won 46-32. All-time series: Tied 2-2.

Fairhope Pirates at Alma-Bryant Hurricanes: Friday, Oct. 20

Team records entering play: Fairhope will enter 1-6 and 0-4 in Class 7A Region 1, Alma-Bryant will enter 2-5 and 0-4 in region. Last year: Pirates won 37-7. All-time series: Fairhope leads 9-0.

No. 4 Mary G. Montgomery Vikings at Daphne Trojans: Friday, Oct. 20

Team records entering play: Daphne will enter 4-3 and 3-1 in Class 7A Region 1, MGM will enter 8-0 and 5-0 in region. Last year: Vikings won 14-9. All-time series: MGM leads 7-1.

Murphy Panthers at Baldwin County Tigers: Friday, Oct. 20

Team records entering play: Both teams will enter 1-6 and 1-4 in Class 6A Region 1. Last year: Murphy won 22-18. All-time series: Panthers lead 17-10.

Orange Beach Makos at Wilcox Central Jaguars: Friday, Oct. 20

Team records entering play: Orange Beach will enter 0-7 and 0-5 in Class 4A Region 1, Wilcox Central will enter 1-6 and 0-5 in region. Last year: Makos won 48-0 in teams’ first meeting.

Robertsdale Golden Bears at Spanish Fort Toros: Friday, Oct. 20

Team records entering play: Spanish Fort will enter 6-2 and 5-1 in Class 6A Region 1, Robertsdale will enter 0-7 and 0-6 in region. Last year: Toros won 42-13. All-time series: Spanish Fort leads 9-0.

St. Michael Cardinals at No. 4 Jackson Aggies: Friday, Oct. 20

Team records entering play: St. Michael will enter 5-3 and 4-1 in Class 4A Region 1, Jackson will enter 6-0 and 5-0 in region. Last year: Aggies won 28-6. All-time series: Jackson leads 2-1.

No. 10 Vigor Wolves at Elberta Warriors: Friday, Oct. 20

Team records entering play: Elberta will enter 2-5 and 1-4 in Class 5A Region 1, Vigor will enter 5-2 and 4-2 in region. Last year: Wolves won 42-0 in teams’ first meeting.
