Selling chair sponsorships to fund project

The South Baldwin Community Theatre, a staple of the island for over 50 years, will undergo a renovation project in March to modernize and revamp the beloved playhouse.
Jeremy Sullivan, board member, said he was inspired to lead the project, which will include installing new theater chairs, updated flooring, new carpet, updated lobby decor, artistic displays, gallery wall of past productions, new folding chairs and a neon sign of the theater's website.
According to Sullivan, the Pensacola Little Theatre recently donated their old chairs after receiving a grant, which prompted the project.
"The Pensacola Little Theater got a $5 million grant, and we now have their old theater chairs, which are actually fairly new," Sullivan said. "It started going full speed from there, and I came up with the idea to renovate the lobby because the decor in house is black but the lobby is a little dated and dull."
Sullivan said the theater will be selling $100 seat sponsorships to help fund the project. The donator's name will get engraved on a plaque on either a display or the seat itself.

"We are still discussing whether to create a board or put everyone's name on a chair, and we have about 150 to sell," Sullivan said.
Sullivan said the project will cost the theater approximately $20,000, and he hopes to start the renovations in March during a lull between shows.
"It's a little up in the air right now. We are still trying to find donations to renovate the lobby so we don't have to use the working budget," Sullivan said.
Sullivan said the lobby will be redecorated with brighter décor and curtains to reflect the theater theme all the way through the building.
"I’m really excited to see the end product and the pride in our theater, see the art and the magic of theater and true magic is when someone gets on that stage and puts out that performance of true empathy," he said.
