Matt Quinn further established his name in the record books of the University of Alabama at Birmingham’s football program after he became the career leader in point-after tries made with 146.

The Spanish Fort alum, who already owns the career PAT percentage record at .986, helped the Blazers take down the South Florida Bulls 56-35 on Saturday with eight extra points. Thanks to that performance, Quinn extended his streak to 107 consecutive points-after tries made which is good enough for the third-longest active run in the country.

The redshirt senior’s next opportunity to extend the streak and add to his new record will come on the road this Saturday against the University of Texas at San Antonio Roadrunners in American Athletic Conference action. UAB will enter 1-1 in conference and UTSA will enter 1-0.

Ty Long, who kicked from 2009-14, previously held the career point-after-tries mark with 145 PATs but still holds two more big records that Quinn is approaching.

Long owns the school record for most career field goals made (59) and overall points scored (322) but Quinn currently sits behind Nick Vogel, another longtime kicker who competed from 2014-19, in the history of the program. Quinn’s 40 field goals are fifth behind Vogel’s 47 and Quinn’s 266 points scored are fourth behind Vogel’s 269 points scored.

Quinn used seasons with 31, 49, 45 and now 21 points-after tries made in his four years with UAB. The 49 from 2021 sit second-best in a single season behind Vogel’s 51 from 2018.

During his time at Spanish Fort High School, Quinn was twice named all-state by the Alabama Sports Writers Association where he was a second-team honoree as a junior and a first-team selection as a senior. He also owns Spanish Fort school records for points scored (447) and field goals (55) including four walk-off field goals as time expired. He also made 282 of his 293 points-after tries for a .962 PAT percentage.

The former Toro also wasn’t the only Baldwin County alumnus who earned school records in the kicking discipline this year.

South Alabama’s Diego Guajardo, a Daphne graduate, became the Jaguars’ all-time leading scorer earlier this season when he registered his 244th point scored. Guajardo also had a record-breaking performance on Saturday where his two field goals made in South Alabama’s 55-7 win over Louisiana-Monroe pushed his career total to 51 and counting to set a new standard.
