A case that originated as a financial crime ultimately led to charges related to elder and child abuse, Baldwin County Sheriff's Office deputies say.

On Jan. 8, the sheriff’s office received information of financial fraud involving Alec Dvorak. It was alleged that Dvorak fraudulently opened accounts using his grandparents' information, leading to the accusation that he had exploited his family members' identities to open accounts and credit cards, amassing several thousand dollars in the process.

Further investigation indicated that Dvorak had subjected his grandparents to emotional abuse over the past few months, involving verbal threats. Warrants were issued for Dvorak's arrest on charges of financial exploitation of the elderly in the first degree and elderly abuse/neglect in the third degree.

Uniformed deputies from the Street Crimes Unit apprehended Dvorak on Jan. 9. During the arrest, deputies say they discovered methamphetamine and paraphernalia in Dvorak's possession, with a 9-month-old child found in the vehicle. Subsequently, the child was given to a family member who observed unusual marks on the child's body.

Interviews and a medical examination revealed that some of the marks on the baby were burns consistent with electronic burns. It was determined that Dvorak had reportedly used a "stun gun" to threaten and assault the child.

Deputies secured a search warrant for Dvorak's residence to locate the stun gun, which was not found. It is alleged that Dvorak's girlfriend, Destini Ott, had moved and discarded the stun gun along County Road 12 in Baldwin County.

On Jan. 11, investigators located the stun gun. Examination and consultation with medical staff reportedly confirmed that the spacing and shape of the probes matched the electronic burns discovered on the 9-month-old.

In addition to the initial charges, Dvorak now faces three counts of willful torture/abuse of a child, chemical endangerment of a child and two counts of identity theft. Ott has been charged with tampering with physical evidence.

According to the Baldwin County Sheriff's Office, the investigation remains ongoing, requiring further follow-up.
