Elberta cancels Mardi Gras parade due to possibility of inclement weather

Posted

Baldwin County’s first Mardi Gras parade of the season has been canceled.

Elberta’s Mardi Gras parade, scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 27, at 2 p.m. was canceled due to the possibility of inclement weather.

Gulf Coast Media attempted to reach Elberta city officials Friday but was unable to get ahold of anyone at City Hall or the Elberta Police Department.

In a post on the Facebook event, Elberta Councilperson Vicky Norris said Thursday, Jan. 25,:

“Due to the incoming weather system and all public safety concerns – the parade is being canceled. We do not see the possibility of rescheduling this event at this time. We look forward to seeing you on the streets in the Fall when our small-town parade season kicks off again.”

Before you head out to any Mardi Gras events happening across the region, check with the local municipalities to ensure the events are still happening. Some events like the Gumbo and Alabama Slammer Festival in Foley on Saturday, Jan. 27, are rain or shine.
