PHOTOS: Gulf State Park hosts Total Solar Eclipse 2024 viewing party

While Baldwin County was not in the path of totality when the moon passed exactly in between Earth and the sun on Monday, April 8, the clouds cleared just enough for most people looking up (with eclipse-safe glasses) to see the last eclipse that will cross the contiguous U.S. in 20 years.

Gulf State Park held a viewing event at the Interpretive Center, and viewers of all ages came out to get a glimpse. Baldwin County was projected to get 60-80% totality.

A Russia-centric total solar eclipse includes Alaska in its 2033 path, and the next total solar eclipse won't be visible again from the contiguous U.S. until Aug. 22, 2044, and even then totality will only occur over Montana and the Dakotas.

The next total solar eclipse with a coast-to-coast path will happen on Aug. 12, 2045, with the path of totality spanning California, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Kansas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida.
