Covid-19 reports in Baldwin County Schools reach all time high after holiday

Fairhope High School reports most with 40 potential cases

On Monday Baldwin County Schools reported that 248 individuals in the school system, students and staff, had tested positive for COVID-19, reported symptoms or were exposed to the disease.

It is the highest daily count the system has experienced since school began in August. The district reports these numbers to parents every evening. Officials said those individuals who reported were not in attendance on Monday.

Monday’s numbers touched schools in every part of the county from Bay Minette to Orange Beach. The five schools located in Fairhope posted the largest numbers with a total of 99 individuals in that city’s schools.

Before the holiday break, Superintendent Eddie Tyler reminded parents in an email to use sanitizer and wear masks during holiday celebrations but also urged families to gather, lamenting that cities and states in other parts of the nation were shuttering holiday celebrations to slow the spread of the disease.

Tyler wrote, “I am saddened by those states and communities who will not be allowing family interaction and quite frankly, I wonder how such is possible. I will be with my family for Thanksgiving and I hope you will be celebrating all you have to be grateful for with your family, too. Let's do this while remembering to do so responsibly so that we can get to Christmas without a single school closure.”

The system has plans in place to close schools as necessary as outbreaks occur, by feeder pattern, school and even grade level.
