Prodisee Pantry to host First 52nd-Annual Magnolia Ball to help feed families

DAPHNE — Prepare to leave your TV and immerse yourself in real life in the Magnolia Ball, as depicted in the Hulu original show, "Love in Fairhope."

When the show first aired in Baldwin County, some viewers and Fairhope residents were likely confused by the fantasized portrayal of Fairhope. The show, which followed a handful of people's quests to find love and was promoted as a mix of real life and dramatization, claimed the town had two streetlights, 1,000 residents and even featured an event called the Magnolia Ball, that did not actually take place. Until now.

Despite these things not being a true description of Fairhope, Prodisee Pantry wanted to bring one of these things to life on Jan. 5 at the Daphne Civic Center — the Magnolia Ball.

"We made the official title as "The First 52nd-Annual Magnolia Ball," Prodisee Pantry Executive Director Deanne Servos said. "Clairborne Walsh, who I have gotten to know, said in the show that she has attended all 51 of the Magnolia Balls, so now we will host the first 52nd because that way if the show continues, and they have a 52nd, we have the first one."

To make this event come to life, Servos added that there will be a red-carpet rollout for members of the "Love in Fairhope" cast to walk down.

"The dress theme is Fairhope chic," Servos said. "We wanted to make sure that we held a ball that no one felt like they had to go buy a floor length gown and follow all the rules. Fairhope chic is what you feel good and stylish in, whether it's a formal cocktail, short dresses, flip flops, no tie, tie. The idea is to come and support our efforts and have fun."

Each ticket to the Magnolia Ball is $75, which will cover two grocery carts full of items to feed two families in Baldwin County.

"The whole shopping cart includes milk, meat, eggs and more," she said. "When you support a nonprofit charitable event, all the proceeds from the tickets will be turned around in the Prodisee Pantry efforts to feed the hungry in Baldwin County."

In 2023, Prodisee Pantry celebrated their 20th anniversary and will close out the years having helped over 210,000 family visits, which equates to 19 to 20 million pounds of food distributed during the year.
